How do I rank in Perplexity?
Perplexity searches the web for nearly every question and shows the pages it used as numbered sources. To rank there, let its crawler, PerplexityBot, reach your site, and publish pages that answer specific questions in the first lines. Clear, current pages are the easiest for it to use, so keep yours up to date.

How does Perplexity choose its sources?
Perplexity works more like a search engine than ChatGPT does. It looks things up for almost every question, reads several pages, and writes a short answer with a numbered link after each claim.
Because every claim points to a source, it picks pages that state a fact plainly enough to back one sentence. A page that answers “How long does a roof inspection take?” in its first line is easy to cite. A page that hides the answer in paragraph six is hard to cite.
It also leans on sources people already trust and that look current. Forums, review sites and well-known publications show up often in its answers, so being mentioned there helps too.
What you can do yourself
Let PerplexityBot in
Check your robots.txt and your firewall or CDN settings. If PerplexityBot is blocked, Perplexity cannot read your pages to use them as sources.
Ask Perplexity your buyers' questions
Note which sources it shows for each one, and open them. They tell you what a page needs to be cited for that question.
Answer in the first sentence
Make each claim easy to lift: one fact per sentence, numbers written in the text, and the question as the heading.
Show the date
Add “last updated” with a real date, and update the page when facts change. For prices, rules and products, current pages are easier to trust.
Join the conversations your buyers have
Answer questions in the forums and communities where your buyers ask, as yourself, with useful detail. Perplexity often cites these discussions.
Check again every few weeks
Sources change. Re-ask your questions and see whether your pages appear.
Example
Summit Roofing is a made-up company in Denver with a FAQ page of twelve questions in one long block. For “how long does a roof inspection take in Denver”, Perplexity cites a national roofing blog. Summit splits the FAQ into short sections, each with the question as a heading and a one-line answer first, and adds a “last updated” date. Each answer can now be cited on its own.
How Sophyx helps
We track how you appear in AI answers on ChatGPT and on Gemini, including Google AI Overviews, up to 30 prompts per cycle. Perplexity is not on that list today.
The work that gets you cited is the same everywhere: clear answer pages, facts that agree across the web, and crawlers let in. Sophyx writes that work and publishes it live on your own domain, where Perplexity can read it too, even though we do not measure Perplexity answers.
The free plan shows where you stand in ChatGPT and Gemini, which is a fair place to start.
